Hand-Dyed Rag Rug Series - 2020

I made this series of 15 rag rugs from up-cycled cotton T-shirts and sheets as an exploration of renewal. The material was hand-dyed with natural indigo using various shibori techniques. In some cases, I dyed the fabric before cutting it into strips or T-shirt yarn and in other cases dyed it after it had been processed for weft. Throughout the series, I played with traditional tapestry skills, such as hachure, magnifying and showcasing techniques often used with great subtlety.
